Hello! Wolfonaire Family & Crypto Enthusiasts

We recently hosted an AMA With KILT Protocol 06th April, 2022 at 02:00 PM UTC. This session was phenomenal. If you have missed then here is the precious AMA transcript, for those who missed the live session this will enlighten you for sure…

Guest Speaker :

Mr. Ingo Ruebe| Founder, KILT Protocol

(Note: This is the transcription of the event. Please note that the transcript was edited for comprehensibility and coherency, while the content was not changed.)

INTRODUCTION

Ingo : Hi I am Ingo and I am the founder of KILT Protocol and BTE, and the CEO of BOTLabs GmbH, the company that initially developed KILT Protocol. Before that I was the CTO of Hubert Burda Media and initiated the open-source CMS Thunder. I am also a founding member of the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA) and served on the Board of Directors of the Drupal Association.

Within the team we have a wide mix of different expertises like Computer Science, Mathematics, Law, Economics, Digital Media and Philosophy from different countries across the globe.

Wolf : How did KILT come into existence? Can you please share a short story about your journey till now?

Ingo : Because of my previous jobs as IT Project Director at Axel Springer, CTO of Burda Media, and Board Member of the Drupal Association, I was well aware of the need for reliable and verifiable identity solutions in the business world and beyond.

Recognizing the potential of blockchain to address issues in the current system where users have lost control over their own data, I thought about how to create solutions that could be standardized and implemented by corporates and entrepreneurs worldwide and be flexible enough so developers could quickly build their own businesses around identity and verifying credentials.

Wolf : I have seen most of your videos even those conferences.Really love to see your clarity on data monopoly & also geopolitical tactics behind this,Kilt is solving biggest problems.even I say from my understanding Kilt is solving the problem that hasn’t addressed yet.

Ingo : Well, digital identity is fundamentally broken in Web2. When we move on to Web3, we have to fix it first

Wolf : Yeah 🔥 Very few people understand about the DotSama Ecosystem and their working model. Please explain KILT Protocol.

Ingo : KILT is a decentralized blockchain protocol for issuing verifiable, revocable, and anonymous credentials and DIDs for Web3. KILT updates the established process of trust in real-world credentials — like passports and driving licenses — bringing trust to the digital world.
Developers can use KILT to create identifiers and credentials for humans, machines, or services — basically anything that needs an identity. KILT is the identity infrastructure for the Dotsama ecosystem and beyond.

Wolf : Amazing 👏 Many Polkadot projects deployed on both Kusama & Polkadot Network. You have declared that KILT will only be on one network. Please explain your strategy behind this.

Ingo : Yes, there will always be only one network. Either on Kusama or on Polkadot. Also there is only one KILT Coin, no matter if the network runs on Kusama or on Polkadot at a given time.

KILT just secured another Kusama parachain slot so that it can extend its lease when the current one ends. KILT governance will decide if the whole network will be moved from Kusama to Polkadot later. For the time being it will stay on Kusama.

Wolf : Amazing. Do you have to go for polkadot para chain auction to migrate to polkadot network, Also I was kinda shocked on this 2nd ksm slot winning then I spend more time on reading.

Ingo : well, we used the auction mechanism for our first Kusama Slot. For the second we did not. With Polkadot we will see. I would rather imagine the KILT treasury to pay for the slot. This keeps inflation low and the early adotpors benefit more.

Wolf : Genius 🙏 This will be hot post later I believe.Keep eyes 👀 here Wolfonaire Family ❤️ . How do holders of the KILT Token benefit in the ecosystem? What power within your model do individuals hold? Why is it so attractive and what are the basic requirements to participate?

Ingo : KILT network is decentralized. That means that it is run by the community of KILT Coin holders. Anyone who holds a KILT Coin can make proposals and vote in referendums on the network. KILT Coins are also used for staking on Stakeboard, and for Treasury funding to support projects that help the community.

KILT Coins can also be used as a deposit for storing data on the network. These deposits are returned when the data is deleted.
Also there’s gas of course, but this is not so important. And lets not forgot the collators, who run the network and receive KILt for that.

Wolf : Really Cool 😎 What are DIDs and how can they be used in business?

Ingo : A DID is a decentralized identifier and forms the core of your digital identity.

This is a unique set of numbers and letters that uniquely identifies an identity (like a digital fingerprint) in a verifiable, decentralized way. In KILT, identity is built by adding credentials to the DID.

Developers can use KILT to create identifiers and credentials for humans, machines, services, IoT use cases, and anything basically that needs identity.

Lets move for the Twitter round

Q1. What is the most ambitious goal of your project? Could share with us any Upcoming Updates?

Ans. Since launching KILT mainnet in Autumn 2021 a lot has happened! Many applications have already been built on KILT since October 2021: Examples: the Sporran wallet for KILT Coins and credentials, a staking platform for KILT Coins called Stakeboard, an attestation service called SocialKYC, and a decentralized signing service called DIDsign.

Another application will go live next week called web3name (w3n). web3name is an identifier application for creating a custom name that represents your digital identity. Instead of a string of numbers and letters, web3name is a more recognizable way to show your on-chain DID.

Rather than looking like this:

web3names look like this:
w3n:ingo

and this is something we needed in blockchain for 10 years now

Your web3name can be linked to your addresses across the Polkadot ecosystem. Validators and collators can be easily recognized, creating an additional trust layer. And anyone can easily view your web3name — no blockchain experience required!

We will announce web3name at a Crowdcast on Monday April 11 at 5pm CEST. And show you how to claim your name — free for a limited time for the Polkadot community. Watch our Twitter for more details!

Wolf : Very Excited! This Is The Updated Kilt Roadmap Family. Welcome W3N. This will be huge Sir.

Ingo- Hope so.

Christine- web3name is the 5th application “built on KILT” since October… our devs are fast

Wolf- did:kilt:4s8kEBWV9nwU5znxmfR7DVA31DdBoqYGj49SAiAPzzigwJDm

This is really hectic to track & identify. Finally we have a decentralised solution that’s user friendly too. love that!

Ingo- Thats how we designed the system. It makes it easy to deploy great software in it. Of course not only for us, but also for the community.

Q2. Currently a lot of people are looking at NFTs, metaverse, and games. Can you tell me what advantages will you have in this field future?

Ans. As mentioned earlier, the SocialKYC identity attestation service built on KILT is designed to help you regain control over your digital identity. This would be the perfect solution for the gaming scene. Users can verify their internet identity by proving they control their social accounts like email address, Twitter, Github, LinkedIn, & Twitch.

SocialKYC never stores your data and just forgets about you after the credential is issued — what you do with it after that is up to you.

Another application that is designed to make online services more convenient and safer in Web3 is DIDsign, a decentralized signing and verifying service. You can sign any digital file — PDFs, audio, video, software — directly in your browser using a DID.
Only the sender and recipient have access to the files and they are not stored anywhere else. This can be used for signing contracts or, basically, signing anything you can send digitally. So DIDsign is perfect for signing contracts in DAOs and Metaverse.

I also believe that metaverses will need a decentralized identity infrastructure to reflect the needs of their users. This is where KILT comes in pretty handy: metaverse developers do not have to implement identity into their systems. They can just use KILT.

Q3. I’ve found out that Kilt Protocol has its very own crypto wallet called the “ Sporran Wallet”. What are the unique features and utilities built on this wallet? What makes it different from the conventional MetaMask wallet?

Ans. Sporran is a browser extension that works as a wallet for KILT Coins, decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and credentials. Sporran is your gateway to the KILT blockchain.

With Sporran, a user can create their own unique digital identity and store their digital credentials, similar to a physical wallet that stores not only your coins but also your driver’s license. This makes it different from other crypto wallets.

Sporran also works with other applications built on KILT. You can use Sporran to store the verifiable credentials you created with SocialKYC. By upgrading your free DID to an on-chain DID you can also use Sporran for signing and verifying files with DIDsign. And web3names will also be added to the Sporran functionality next Monday. So restart yor browsers 😊

Lets move for community round

Q1. Many projects have problems with UI / UX and this one turns off new users. How do you plan to improve the interaction with new users and with users outside the crypto space?

Ans. First of all we hired a world class UX designer, who worked as Head of design for multinational companies. So we really look into these things. When you look e.g. at didsign.io you will notice: people can use this and not even notice that there’s a blockchain underneath. This is where we have to go.

Q2. Partnership is always an important factor for every project. So who is your partner? What are the benefits you get from those relationships?

Ans. Our partners are listed here: kilt.io/partners. These include Polkadot ecosystem partners like Acala, Moonbeam and Centrifuge, as well as government partners like dena, the German ministry of energy.
And we have more partnerships in the works, including health care, media and gaming. Join our Telegram and Twitter for the latest news.

Q3. Can you tell us about your team members? are they qualified and professional in their fields? what are the recruiting qualifications for team members for your extraordinary project?

Ans. KILT and BOTLabs GmbH, the original developer of KILT, has a deep bench of business, media, tech and finance experience. And of course multiple years with blockchain startups. We even have a philosopher / developer on board!

Our team is also global, which is critical as we expand into new markets. Our team represents countries including Austria, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, England, Ethiopia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Turkey, and the US.

You can see what skillsets and qualities we hire for, by looking at our open roles listed here:
